Destination Mirth in Greenland: Travels with Margaret

Iceland has become a tourism mecca, but its neighbor on the left, Greenland, is a quiet treasure.  Enjoy. Learn about the real effects of global warming on the world. The melting glaciers are crying until we get the message.

While there is a lot of natural beauty, also take time to learn about the Inuit culture in Greenland.  About 85% of the country’s roughly 55,000 residents are native Inuit Greenlanders who are proud of their traditions and love to talk about them. Greenland was colonized by Denmark, so most of the rest of the population is Danish  though a small and growing number of immigrants from Thailand and Philippines have settled there (about 1%).  The native language is Greenlandic, Danish is their second language, and English is spoken as a third language by most residents, especially in tourist areas.
