Film star takes on role of commencement speaker at Harvard
This morning, I dashed out of the house, pushed off my hair appointment, a bone density scan, even my much-loved trip to Flour Bakery. I jumped into the car as my driver made our way to an already traffic-choked Brattle Street. With car horns blaring and electric-car engines humming, we turned right and left and right again. Streets were closed. Parking was scarce. I jumped out of the car with mobility cane in hand. I was grateful for my flat shoes as I made my way across the uneven brick sidewalks that line Cambridge streets. I swung my cane to and fro until I landed at an open gate of Harvard Yard.
I was clearly disheveled, but focused on my goal, to hear Tom Hanks share his wisdom and his humor from Harvard’s stage in Tercentenary Theatre. Fortunately, I was able to listen to the livestream broadcast on iPhone via my cochlear implant.
