Who Am I?

I delight in examining the world and building unique understandings of my place and others’ in it. I am a writer and public speaker and also compose music. Most recently in May 2017, I received the Understanding Our Differences Katie Lynch Memorial Award for my commitment to eliminating the social and physical barriers members of the disabled community face on a daily basis. I am based in Massachusetts, and I share my perceptions of the world in my writing for publications and films as well as in my speaking engagements. If you’d like a little insight into my outlook on life (and why not?), check out these pages and email me to know more. I’m happy to explore speaking engagements and to provide more information about my academic and work background via email at nina@destinationmirth.com.

Questions I Frequently Think People Might Ponder

I’m Nina Livingstone.

Es-tu, Bruté?

This is often asked.  The answer is no.

If I sing in a forest and no one is around, I think I can, despite what I call my “nasal voice” or “deaf voice” due to my deafness.

I read email in braille format using a special computer keyboard. I respond using a regular QWERTY keyboard. I can also hear emails from my phone and dictate to respond or to send text messages. I even use emojis, but mostly to impress high school kids.

The New York Times, specifically the Sunday paper. My faves are the Book Review and the Sunday New York Times Magazine. I miss the visuals of skimming through fashion magazines.

The dinners Chefs cook at home or my friends’ favorite dishes; they’re most meaningful. Dinners that provide the ambiance of relaxation, comfortable chairs, and most of all good company make any food great.

Iced, green-tea lemonade—sweetened

Love. Friends hold the ingredient to helping us become better ideals.

Why not? I love the word “mirth,” and I’m bringing it back. There are many paths toward, for, and about mirth! Think mirth. Think positive—without any expectations—and the journey unfolds and falls in place along the way on your life’s path. Think positive!

Nina does speaking engagements for all kinds of groups, from elementary school kids to bar associations. You can reach her at nina@destinationmirth.com to discuss your particular opportunity.
